K-Bay, as it's known to the locals, offers a few reef breaks with something working pretty much all tides. Intermediate/advanced depending on size and break. West to East:

  • The Bench/Broadbench - Fickle, fast, hollow, reef A-frame in an army firing range, so check access online first and flags when you arrive. 20-min walk around bottom of cliffs to W. Mid to high only, dry sucking at low to mid. Experts only.
  • The Bay - Mellow reef A-frame to the middle of the bay, good distance out, best around mid and when other breaks are too big, when it can produce some long rides. Most accessible break here.
  • The Ledges - Mellow, long reefs popular with longboarders, accessed by walking round cliffs to E of bay. Good distance paddle out, which can be a mission when big.
  • Chapman's can also be worth checking out around mid, though fickle, sketchy, and a trek. Experts only.

Rocks, rips, crowds and tricky access depending on tide and army. Parking above bay
