Popular sheltered beachbreak that's a good option in big northerly swells. Generally smaller to the north end, where it tucks up under the Blyth harbour wall and gets sheltered from trailing winds. Larger as you move south until it reaches neighbouring Seaton Sluice, which can offer some shelter from southerlies. Can get fast, heavy, and sometimes hollow, on winter storm swell.

Peaks: range of shifty A-frames running from harbour wall, where generally smallest, down past shitpipe, beachway car park, mermaid carpark, getting bigger as it approaches Seaton Sluice. Under northerly swells tends to work closer to high tide to the north, dropping south as the tide drops. On a storm swell, particular size jump between north of shitpipe and south. Lots to explore, can handle a crowd except when huge and everyone seeking shelter to north of bay.

Tide: All. With northerly swell, north peaks tend to work on higher tide, south peaks as the tide drops.

Swell: N/NE/E. If E usual peak size rules are out the window. If too big for Blyth, you'll have to explore. Lots to check out if too small - try Seaton Sluice first.

Wind: SW/W/NW, W ideal. Some shelter towards high from these. If big enough for peak just south of harbour wall, some shelter from N/NNE. Check out Seaton Sluice if S wind and mid to high.

Hazards: rocks/concrete, pipes/pier/pilings, pollution, rips. Use SSRS app - pretty bad due to river mouth and sewage outlets. Rippy, especially when big. Often crowded over summer when good.

Access, parking & facilities: free parking at Mermaids (lots) and beachway (much smaller), and more to the south, with easy walk to beach. Often overrun in summer. Cafes, toilets, town facilities.
