Popular sheltered bay in the heart of Scarborough’s tourist area. Works all tides except springs. Good beginner option in winter swells, flat most of summer. Best in bigger N/NE swells wrapping headland, with offshore westerly wind. On rare east swells it can get peaky, hollow and punchy, south tends to close out.

• Main beach: A-frames from harbour wall to spa. On a N/NE swell, smaller at north end (which also has some shelter from N winds), bigger to south. Peaks to the north work at higher tide, peaks to the south as it drops.
• Chalets or Lift: reef right south of Scarborough Spa infront of South Cliff lift. Mid tide. More to explore further south. Intermediate+

Rippy (fixed rip in harbour channel, flash rips along bay when bigger), rocks & reef (towards low tide eg infront of Beachcomber and to south), tricky access towards high, busy, and dodgy water quality (poor rating due to town & harbour)
Too small - check outNorth Bay, or Cayton Bay. Too big - Filey.

Pricy [parking](latlon:54.277367, -0.397704) near spa including underground carpark, plus some [roadside](latlon:54.283020, -0.394623). Fill up fast, hide keys carefully - theft happens. [Disc zone 3-hourly](latlon:54.277177, -0.398918) 5-10 mins walk up cliff.
